Dowry and Widows Issues

Dowry is a transfer of property from the bride’s family to that of the bridegroom, at the time of marriage, include gifts for the bride such as clothes, jewels and other house-hold and luxury goods like a refrigerator and kitchen utensils and so on. 5,000 women die each year because of dowry deaths, and at least a dozen die each day in ‘kitchen fires’ thought to be intentional. These gruesome murders are registered under accidents by people are largely due to stove bursts or kitchen accidents. Wives were more likely beaten by their Husbands and in laws.

In India women tortures and killings is very common practice for dowry. Young women live without marriage for the fear of dowry problem. Dowry death is so prominent not only in villages and rural India but is very much prevalent among the educated in the cities as well. Chennai has a high rate of Dowry related death recently. Caste and tradition plays the vital role in the Dowry system in India.34 million widows are living in all over India. 8% of female 30 population are widows. 50% of the female population are over the age of 50. In terms of prevalence of widowhood, India ranks highest in the word. Deprivations causing mortality for widows is 85% higher amongst widows than married women. 20% of widows are working as agricultural labourers. 33 million widows ( 8%) need help financially, socially and psychologically

6.Pray for all suffering Indian widows & poverty should changed

7.Pray that churches should care of widows and support them.

8.Pray that all the financial need of widows and their children.

9.Pray that all widows should live holy life.

10.Pray that community should respect them and should not irritate or discourage them by using traditions
